Holistic Treatment for Headaches – The Benefits of Indian Head Massage

Headaches are unfortunately all too common and can be horribly debilitating for some people. Lots of people suffer from headaches whether it is tension headaches, cluster headaches, sinus headaches or migraine headaches.

Headaches have a number of triggers including weather changes, stress, food or drink, pollution, bright lights, skipping meals, lack of sleep, certain smells, infections and hormone fluctuations.

The traditional cure for a headache is either quietly laying down in a darkened room, taking a pain-killer, or other medicine such as sinus medicine. While these familiar cures for work for some people some of the time, rising numbers of people are looking to find natural treatments to rebalance the body and halt the problem at its source.

Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage has been practised for thousands of years and is based on the Ayurveda system of healing. It balances the body’s natural energy systems, called the chakras and is deeply relaxing and calming.

An Indian head massage releases stress through a head, face, neck shoulder and back massage. The client is seated throughout with their feet flat on the floor and hands relaxed in their lap. It starts with a full consultation to find out about the client’s stress levels, energy levels and medical history. The client will be advised to close their eyes and begin with three very deep breaths before the session begins.

Oil is rubbed in the upper back, shoulders, upper arms and neck area. The massage involves a series of kneading and compression movements starting with the back and shoulders to release tight knots and tension. The upper arms are manipulated and relaxed and before the therapist sets to work on the neck and head.

The head involves finger-tip massage, use of pressure points and tapping techniques. The therapist will stroke and stimulate pressure points on the face, then massage the client’s ears to revitalise and clear the sinuses. The session ends with gentle strokes across the head, shoulders and back and the client takes three deep breaths before opening their eyes when they are ready.

Indian head massage can help cure headaches because it rebalances the body’s natural energy systems and sends clients into a peaceful sense of calm and relaxation. It relieves stress and can release knots and muscular tension which can be a major cause of headaches. It also rebalances hormones and improves PMT, leading to an overall sense of well-being. Clients report improved sleep patterns after sessions which can also help reduce or cure headaches.

Reiki

Reiki is thousands of years old. It is an ancient Tibetan healing therapy which was rediscovered in the 19th century by the Japanese Dr Mikao Usui and works by channelling Reiki energy to help the body heal itself.

It treats the person as a whole including the mind, body and soul. It is a natural healing process where the therapists hand’s rarely make contact and the clients receive the treatment fully clothed while lying down. Reiki promotes relaxation, health and well-being and a deep sense of peace. The therapist’s hands hover over the client who can sometimes feel heat or a tingling sensation during the treatment process.

Reiki is a way to channel energy onto a client and promote the body’s natural ability to heal itself. It is a gentle, but powerful form of healing that can promote physical, spiritual and emotional well-being. Some people have reported miraculous results.

This natural form of healing combats stress, which is a main cause of headaches, by creating a sense of calm and restfulness. It helps clear negative energy blocks such as worry, anxiety, fear and self-doubt, by rebalancing the body as a whole to promote health and a general sense of well-being. Reiki brings about a healthy night’s rest which can also cure headaches. It can also work to relieve pain.
